Virginia Dangerous Dog Registry

An 11-year-old Rappahannock County girl was in stable condition at the University of Virginia Trauma Center yesterday after being attacked by a pit bull.

According to police, the girl was visiting a friend when the 1-year-old dog, which was the friend’s family pet, attacked her and she suffered severe bite wounds to the face, neck, arms and legs.

She was taken to Culpeper Regional Hospital emergency room before being transferred to Charlottesville.

The dog was put to sleep.

In Virginia, a dog can be declared dangerous by a court if it has attacked a person, or a companion dog or cat. Virginia state law requires these animals be added to an online dangerous dog registry. Owners are required to supply the dog’s name, their own name, and their address.
