Facebook fights Virginia’s demand for user data, photos – CNET News.

The commonwealth of Virginia has stopped its attempt to force Facebook to comply with a subpoena that requested the complete contents of a user’s account to help settle a workman’s comp case.

The subpoena was from Colgan Air, an airline that previously employed a flight attendant named Shana Hensley that had a back injury while on the job.

Facebook refused to honor the subpoena saying that its users expect them to protect their data and privacy.

I’m glad that Facebook did not allow the access to Ms. Hensley’s data. People are losing their privacy in America and this would have made the process go much more quickly.

Even so, it is a good reminder to be aware of what you put on the internet and realize that people are looking at your personal data that is online. Insurance companies are investigating claimant’s Facebook pages for evidence of insurance fraud. We warn our clients to be careful about what they put on the internet and to realize that it is a lot less private than you might think.

If you have been injured because if somebody else’s fault, let us handle the hassle. Contact Richmond, VA personal injury lawyer Attorney Wayne O’Bryan at 804-643-4343.
