A fatal accident involving a SUV and a school bus is currently being investigated by Richmond, Virginia police.

The driver of the SUV, Karl Anthony McClendon, 46, of Richmond, died at scene which occurred on Tuesday, May 10th. The passengers in Anthony’s vehicle had minor injuries while the students and bus driver were not injured.

Our hearts go out to everyone involved in that accident.

According to the Virginia Highway Safety Office, in 2009 there were 523 driver and passenger fatalities in the state. Of that number, 46 of the deaths occurred in the 46-50 age range. The majority of deaths occurred in the 21-25 age range.

Here’s another interesting statistic:  In 2009, there were 4,761 car crashes in the city of Richmond.  Over half of those crashes (2,525) involved injuries while 16 resulted in a fatality.
