Richmond, VA Fatal DUI Car Accidents | Personal Injury Lawyer

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 30 people die each day in a car accident that involves a driver who is under the influence of alcohol.  Also, The Century Council reported that alcohol-related traffic fatalities account for 41% of all traffic fatalities.

In the state of Virginia alone, 316 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes in 2009.  According to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, a driver with a BAC of 0.15 is over 300 times more likely to be involved in a fatal crash than a sober driver.

It’s sad that so many senseless, unnecessary deaths have taken place.  Although steps have been taken to help drunk drivers and DUI laws have become more strict, accidents continue to happen.

It is illegal to drive with BAC (blood alcohol count) of 0.08% or higher.  For a first DUI offense in Virginia, your license is automatically suspended for seven days.  If you are a DUI offender, you may be required to attend one of the DUI programs offered by the Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program.

It’s unfortunate for all those who are involved in a DUI accident, especially innocent victims.  If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident because of a drunk driver, don’t hesitate to contact a Richmond, Virginia accident lawyer who is experienced with wrongful death and fatal accidents.
