Virginia Car Accident FAQ: When Should I Seek Medical Treatment? | Richmond Personal Injury Lawyer

March 23, 2012 Leave a comment

If you’ve been involved in an auto accident in Richmond, it’s important to seek medical treatment immediately after an accident.  The longer you wait to see a doctor, the less likely you will receive fair compensation for your accident.  If you don’t get medical treatment, the insurance company will think that you were not seriously hurt.

Many people who are involved in auto accidents sometimes do not initially feel any pain or think they are not hurt, but sometimes pains – especially in the back area – may not show up for days or even weeks after the accident.  That’s why it is important to see a doctor if you’ve been rear-ended.  If you experience any type of neck pain, pain in the arms and shoulders, headaches, or dizziness, you could be suffering from whiplash.

Remember that your health comes first, so you should not let lack of money stop you from seeking medical treatment.  Even if you don’t have health insurance, there are some clinics or chiropractors who will accept payment for treatment after you have received your settlement check.  Just let them know that you were in an auto accident.  They will verify with your lawyer, and so when you do receive the settlement check, your lawyer will send payment to the physician or chiropractor.

From WTVR.com: A 44-year-old man was hit by a car while crossing Hull and 12th Street and now Richmond police are on the lookout for the driver.

According to witnesses, the driver did stop and walk back to see if the man was ok. However, the driver left the scene before police could arrive at the scene. The man who was hit suffered a broken arm and fractured ribs from the accident. Someone who witnessed the accident told the man who was hit that he needed to go to the hospital, but the man refused any help.

A Richmond police spokesperson said that in this type of situation, the driver could be charged with a felony hit-and-run because he/she did leave before the police arrived.

Don’t Be a Victim of a Road Rage Accident | Richmond Personal Injury Lawyer

January 5, 2012 1 comment

From WTVR.com, Richmond VA: An update regarding the story of the road rage crash suspect. Christopher Sessoms and Charity Dees were scheduled to appear in court for a deadly crash that left Christopher Lee Fisher dead. The crash, which happened last September, was allegedly due to road rage and caused Fisher’s car to crash into a concrete wall. The suspects have been charged with felony hit and run.

There are millions of car accidents in the U.S. each year, and we can probably assume that many of them are due to road rage and aggressive driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 66 percent of all annual traffic fatalities are caused by aggressive driving actions. What people don’t know is that just like guns, cars can be used as weapons as well, causing harm and death to other people.

The best thing you can do to avoid getting into an accident with a “road rager” is to not feed into the other person’s anger. Don’t react to their honking, finger flipping, or aggressive driving. Just back off and calm down. In the end, it’s just not worth it. You don’t want the same thing that happened to Christopher Lee Fisher to happen to you. If you really feel the need to do something, you can visit sites like RoadRagers.com and file a report.

If you have been a victim of a road rage accident in Virginia, make sure to hire an experienced Virginia car accident attorney.

Am I Getting a Fair Amount For My Richmond VA Car Accident Injury Case?

December 12, 2011 Leave a comment

Maybe you’ve been involved in a car accident in Virginia and decided to file a claim on your own without the help of a car accident attorney. Now you’ve received an offer from the insurance company, but you’re unsure of the amount. Yes, it may seem like a great offer, but oftentimes that initial offer is still pretty low. Keep in mind that insurance adjusters are in the business of saving money for the company they work for.

So, what is a fair amount? Well, it depends on a variety of factors including:

  • Damage to your vehicle
  • How much your medical bills are
  • How much more you may have to spend for ongoing medical care if you were severely injured
  • Any loss of wages because of hospitalization and bed rest
  • Any loss of wages your spouse or loved one may face in order to take care of you
  • Physical therapy costs
  • Emotional pain and suffering. Don’t just think about the pain and suffering now. Also consider what you may experience in the future if the injury is severe.

Negotiating with the insurance company can be a hassle, but be firm in your counter offer. However, if all of this seems too much to handle, it may be in your best interest to contact a Richmond Virginia car accident lawyer who specializes in these types of cases. You don’t have to hire a lawyer to settle your case, but if you don’t feel comfortable negotiating with the insurance adjusters, then it might be better to have someone act on your behalf who has the confidence and experience.

Snow!

February 9, 2010 1 comment

Central Virginia has been blanketed with snow more often then not this winter and with that comes unsafe driving conditions. Please make sure you avoid driving unless necessary and be especially certain to buckle your seat belt in case you slip or slide into something while driving.

Personally I have had enough snow this winter and could stand to not see any more until next year. But unfortunately there is more snow in the forecast. Stay safe!
